ObituaryOct 8, 2012  OBITUARY: BURLINGTON - Otis Kenneth Fleming, 86, of Burlington, passed into the loving arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Oct. 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Hinesburg on May 3, 1926, to the late Dean and Anna (Harris) Fleming.

He attended Burlington public schools and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Leo during World War II, assigned to the AsiaticPacific Theater. He proudly watched as they raised the flag atop Mt. Suribachi (Iwo Jima) in 1945.

Otis worked at the Woolen Mill in Winooski until they closed, GMP, Vermont Gas, and at the U.S. Postal Service, from where he retired in 1982.

On Aug. 30, 1986, Otis married Dorothy (Beaudoin) Crowley in Winooski. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family. Before he became ill, Otis spent long hours tending his garden. He was an avid bowler and played on senior citizen leagues after his retirement. Most memorable was Otis's love of food - dining out or having family bring him special desserts. Otis had a warm and gentle heart and loved all of his little grandbabies. He will always be remembered for his funny and playful disposition. He filled us with joy and laughter and will be greatly missed.

Along with his wife, he is survived by her children and their spouses, AnnMarie (Dale) Germain of Columbia, Md., Mark (Lori) Crowley of Grand Isle, Bert Crowley (his partner, Sharron Fortune), Diane (Tracy) Blondin, and Gerry Crowley, all of Burlington, Laurie (Russell) Sabens of Milton, and Timothy Crowley (his partner, Mary Ann Fletcher) of West Glover. Also surviving him are his sister, Iona Mikkelsen of Titusville, Fla; brother-inlaw, Urbain Dupont of Winooski; and sister-inlaw, Rita Dupont of St. Albans; as well as many other brothers- and sisters-in-law from his second marriage.
