ObituaryMar 30, 2002  OBITUARY: ST. ALBANS – Rita M. (Rayta) Driscoll, 79, a resident of St. Albans since 1984, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Winooski Feb. 24, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Alma (Cauchon) Blondin. Rita was predeceased by her first husband, Richard C. Rayta, Sr., and her second husband, Lawrence “red” Driscoll. She was a graduate of Winooski High School.

Rita is survived by two sons, Richard C. Rayta, Jr., and his wife, Dawn, of Canton, Ga., and Donald and his wife, Theresa Rayta of Jeffersonville; two daughters, Maureen Hopkins of Edinburg, N.Y. and Cathy L. Cross of St. Albans. She also leaves a twin brother, Robert Blondin of Winooski; a sister-in-law, Peanut Blondin of Burlington; grandchildren Shawnette Whitehead, Tammie Schofield, Patrick Rayta, Marie Rayta, Linda Lee Rayta, Ricky Cross, Andrew Cross, Gordon Stowell, Steven Stowell Charles Rogers and Nancy Chapman; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Chelsea Schofield, Cole Whitehead, Daniel, Jessica and Sabrina Hicks, Ricci Sue Rayta, Gage Rayta, Steven Stowell, Jr., Bryan Stowell and Mindy Stowell, Louie Adams, and Michael Thomas; also nieces, nephews and cousins; and several dear friends at Lake Street Housing. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, Inc., 13 Loomis Street, Montpelier, VT 05602. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.
