ObituarySep 18, 1990  OBITUARY: BRATTLEBORO, VT – Carroll H. Haskins, 85, of Greenleaf Street, died Monday morning, Sept. 17, 1990, at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH. He was born June 29, 1905, in Amherst, Mass., the son of Walter and Mary (Howard) Haskins. He attended schools in Amherst and Brattleboro.

He was a former resident of Dover and Vernon and had made his home in Brattleboro for the past 59 years.

For 58 years, Mr. Haskins was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail from office to office in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In 1988, he received an award of recognition from the U.S. Postal Service for 58 years of continuous service without missing a delivery.

Mr. Haskins also operated a trucking service in the Brattleboro area for many years.

He was a member of the Deerfield Valley Bible Chapel and the National Star Route Carriers Association.

On March 20, 1930, he married the former Adella Goodell, who died May 21, 1981.

He leaves eight sons: Howard, Daniel, Phillip, Davin and Gary, all of Brattleboro; Stephen of Williamsville; Thomas and Samuel of Hinsdale, NH; five daughters: Shirley Scarborough of Whiting, Jean Goddard of Brattleboro, June Doucette of Hinsdale, NH, Rachael Haskins of Brattleboro and Rebecca Edson of Dummerston; 32 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and one cousin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 1990, at 11 a.m. at the West Brattleboro Baptist Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Oakwood Cemetery in Townshend. Friends may call at the Max E. Carr Funeral Home, 32 Oak St., Brattleboro, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1990, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Haskins’ memory to the Salvation Army.
