She was the widow of Russell Glasson, who she married in 1941.
Mrs. Glasson was born in Island Pond on September 22, 1921, a daughter of Edward and Ida (Legacy) Hawkins.
She was a teacher for 28 years and taught in Brighton elementary as well as Morgan and Holland schools. She was principal of Brighton elementary for a few years. She was secretary to the Brighton Alumni Association for about 30 years, and she held all elected posts of the Order of the Eastern Star and was also in the state and grand representatives of North Dakota.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and went camping with her daughter Barb and her husband, Howard, including traveling to the West Coast. She also enjoyed flower gardening, birding, sugaring, going to her camp, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma/Episolon Chapter, a lifetime member of the North Star Chapter of the Eastern Star, and the Island Pond Historical Society. Mrs. Glasson was also a member of the Island Pond Congregational Church for many years and was very active on the church board as a trustee and deacon. She was superintendent of Sunday School, as well as a teacher there, and she served as secretary of the church.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Walker and her husband, Howard of Island Pond, and Lola Carpenter and her husband, Gary, of Spencer, Tennessee; by her grandchildren: Wendy Walker and her husband, Charles Fleer Jr., of Olympia, Washington, and Justin Walker and his wife, Lisa, of North Pole, Alaska; her granddaughters: Kelly Dodson and her friend Mickey Fisher of Spencer, Tennessee, and Kate Carpenter of Friendsville, Tennessee; by great-grandchildren Ethan and Emma Dodson and Brianna Walker; by her sister Irene and her husband, Darrell Annis, of Island Pond; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell, on July 18, 1990; by an infant son, Roy Edward, on March 17, 1961: and by siblings Percy Hawkins, Pauline McKinney, and Junior Edward Hawkins.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 1199 Railroad Street in Island Pond. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Alan Magoon officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery where services by members of Eastern Star will be held.
