Carlton L. Glasson, 87, died peacefully at home with his devoted family by his side on Monday, November 25. The last of eleven children, he was born in East Charleston, VT, on March 26, 1932 and was the son of Harold and Hazel (Horne) Glasson. He walked from Barton to Burlington VT to enlist in Airforce and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Shortly after being honorably discharged from the military, he met his wife and love of his life for the past 61 years, Doris (Heinemann) Glasson. Together they built their home and raised their family in Granby. Carlton was Lineman and Signal Operator on the B&M (Boston-Maine) Railroad and later for the Hampden-Harvard-Brewery Inc. as a Quality Control/boiler technician. He eventually went back to trade school and was employed for many years at Storm Drop Forge Co. in Springfield. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, waterskiing, snowmobiling and traveling. He was also a gifted baker, later in life this gift turned into a passion and he would give generously of his creations. He cherished his trips to Northern VT, reminiscing of the past and telling others of the stories of days long ago. Such as when he and a few of his siblings and friends would visit the neighbor’s apple orchard for a late afternoon snack and being blasted with rock salt. Or how they played hide-and-seek hiding and jumping from boxcars in the railroad yard. Over the last several years while helping with researching his Family Tree, he would spend hours with Richard Colburn Sr. an older classmate from his youth. They both went to school in the same one room schoolhouse in East Charleston; it is now where the Charleston Historical Society resides. He would always put family first, helping in any way and loved children, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and animal’s. He will be forever missed by his wife Doris and their three children, Edward Glasson and his wife Janet of Mashpee, Katherine Snyder-Guz and her husband John of Ludlow and Judy Monette and her husband Stephen of Springfield along with four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. All services are private and Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
