ObituaryNov 12, 2003  OBITUARY: SPRINGFIELD - William L. Stanhope, 84, a resident of Springfield since 1937, and formerly of Vermont, died early Saturday evening at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Leeds. He was born in Richford, VT, the son of the late Amos and Laura (Tessier) Stanhope and was educated from the Vermont School System. Mr. Stanhope was employed for many years as a route driver for the former Bon Bread & General Baking Company of Springfield from which he retired in 1975. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Marine Corps, and was a life member of the D.A.V., American Legion Chapter # 277 Indian Orchard, Teamsters Local # 404, and a parishioner of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Stanhope celebrated his 57th year anniversary on Sept. 3rd of 2003 and is the husband of the late Dorothy Anna Marie (Choiniere) Stanhope who died late Sunday evening at Wingate of Wilbraham. He leaves one son, William L. Stanhope, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Palmer, two daughters; Lana N. Rodier and her husband, Norman of Agawam, and Eleanor L. Therrien and her husband, David of Warren, 7 grandchildren; Jennifer and Jeffrey Stanhope, Scott and Laura Rider, and Brianne, Taylor and Hannah Therrien. Mr. & Mrs. Stanhope's funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Orchard Funeral Home, 485 Main Street, Indian Orchard, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, Boston Rd., Springfield, with Rites of Committal to follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard. Calling hours for Mr. And Mrs. Stanhope will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and contributions in their memory may be directed to the American Diabetes Assoc., 149 Madison Ave., NY, NY, 10157 or to the Alzheimer's Association of Western Mass Region, 1600 East Columbus Ave., Springfield, 01103 or to the Arthritis Foundation, Suite 450, 29 Crafts St., Newton , MA 02158.
