ObituaryApr 1, 2017  OBITUARY: SOUTH ROYALTON - Arlene Catherine Dodge, 98, passed away at her home in South Royalton, Vermont, on March 30, 2017.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1918, to Charles and Catherine (Stender) Morrill, in Tunbridge, Vermont, and graduated from Randolph High School.
Arlene married George Dodge, June 12, 1939. They shared many happy times in their 73 years of marriage until his death on Aug. 24, 2012. They lived their entire married life on the Dodge farm on Route 110 in South Royalton.
Arlene loved doing a multitude of things, among them playing games, fishing and knitting baby clothes. She had a passion for seeing the countryside and traveling with her husband in their RV.
She had a deep love for her family and enjoyed laughter and games with them. Her grandchildren, among others, enjoyed the delicious treats she baked and brought a special joy to her and a smile to her face.
She was by George's side in many activities, including the Farm Bureau Show in Barre, Vermont, and helping with the horse show at the Tunbridge Fair. She was an active member of the Rebekahs, where she held many chairs, and a member of the United Church of South Royalton. She also took care of the town books for many years.
She is survived by her son, Theodore Dodge, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her daughter, Marie Huggins and her husband, Dale, of Henrico, Virginia , and her son and longtime caregiver Harry Dodge, of South Royalton, Vermont; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Catherine Morrill; a son, Richard Dodge; three brothers, Richard Morrill, Max Morrill and N. Fay Morrill; three sisters, Irene White, Esther Potter and Hazel Ballou.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 3, 2017, at 6-8 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, 300 Vermont Route 110, Chelsea, VT. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of South Royalton, South Royalton, Vermont. Burial will be at a later date in the Branchview Cemetery in South Royalton.
