On 4 May 1919 Lucina Crouser Broadwell was murdered in Barre, Vermont. This murder rocked the city of Barre and the investigation as well as the trial were reported almost on a daily basis in the "Barre Daily Times" newspaper.

Mrs. Isabelle Parker was initially implicated and held for the murder along with George Long, a lodger at Mrs. Isabelle Parker's residence. Isabelle was at her house with George Long at the time Lucina was murdered.

During the investigation it became known that Isabelle ran a brothel & was hosting cheating parties at her home located at 110 South Main Street in Barre. Also obtained during the investigation was Isabelle's diary or address book which contained names, addresses, and telephone numbers of Isabelle's customers among them being many prominent people of Barre, both male & female. This book became known as the "Famous Redbook".

George Long was tried on circumstantial evidence and found guilty of second degree murder. Isabelle was found guilty of maintaining a disorderly house. She received a sentence of not less than two years but due to poor health Isabelle petitioned the governor for clemency which the governor denied. Isabelle started her sentence at the Woman's Reformatory in Windsor, Vermont on 26 April 1920.

Isabelle died on 4 September 1922 at the Rutland City Hospital in Rutland Vermont. She served nearly two and a half years.
