ObituaryNov 18, 2009  OBITUARY: BRATTLEBORO - Clyde A. Wilder Sr., 86, of Guilford Street, died unexpectedly late Saturday night, Nov. 7, 2009 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
Mr. Wilder was born in Brattleboro on Nov. 21, 1922, the son of Charles and Marion Woodard Wilder.
He was raised and educated in Brattleboro graduating from Brattleboro High School. He had been a lifelong resident of the area.
A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Force stationed in the China, Burma and Indian Theater of Operation. He was honorable discharged from active service at the rank of Staff Sergeant on Feb. 4, 1946.
Upon his return home after the war he went to work at the former Crosby Milling Company on Vernon Street. In the late 1950's he established his own trucking company which he owned for many years, retiring in 1984.
He was a life member of both the American Legion Brattleboro Post #5 and the V.F.W. Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034.
Of his pastimes and interests, he enjoyed playing cards every Friday night, golfing, hunting, wood working and playing horseshoes. His prowess in the game of pool was comparable to the skill and elegance of a samurai.
Mr. Wilder was married in Brattleboro to the former Kathleen White, who predeceased him.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Wilder of Stonington, Conn., Clyde Wilder Jr. of Cullman, Ala., and Terrance Wilder of Clearfield, Pa; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Merrill Wilder, Wendell Wilder, Donald Wilder and Keith Wilder; and his faithful companion of 46 years, Margaret Ferris.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services with full military honors will be conducted in Locust Ridge Cemetery, Black Mountain Road on Friday at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the services at the V.F.W. Post #1034 also on Black Mountain Road. There are no calling hours at the funeral home.
