ObituaryDec 4, 2003  OBITUARY: Southbridge, Mass. -- Beryl L. Bertrand, 79, of Maria Ave. Southbridge, MA, formerly of Woodstock, CT, died Wednesday in the Harrington Hospital, Southbridge, MA. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Bertrand; he died in 1971. She was born September 16, 1924 in Derby, CT, daughter of the late Louis and the late Juliette (Voss) Prentice. She was a registered nurse, employed at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam from 1967 to 1978; she also worked at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam and the Westview Nursing Home in Dayville. She had made her home on Rocky Hill Road in Woodstock for many years, recently moving to Southbridge. She was a graduate of the Meriden Hospital Nursing School. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Mrs. Bertrand was a master points bridge player and competed with Omar Sharif. Survived by three daughters, Cheryl Reynolds of Webster, MA, Karen Leduc of Putnam, Carol Case of Salt Lake City, UT, and two sons, William Bertrand of Southbridge, MA, Charles Bertrand of Ledyard, CT; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam with the Rev. Charles Selvard officiating. Calling hours Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Woodstock. Donations may be made in her memory to the Harrington Memorial Hospital, 100 South Street, Southbridge, MA 01550 or the Salvation Army Fund.
