He was born June 13, 1917, in Troy, Vt., the son of the late Joseph and Regina (Prive) Godin

He was a resident of Montgomery Center most of his life and was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church and was Chief Ranger of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1607. He was employed as a meat cutter at Perry's Market in Richford and Puffer Lumbra's Market in Montgomery Center. He was also employed at Zack's on the Rocks in Montgomery Center and at the Montgomery School as the janitor and general maintenance person retiring in 1997. He was Montgomery's representative to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1949 and was a member of the Montgomery School Board for 30 years from 1949 to 1979. He was also a charter member of the Montgomery Fire Department, and a member of the former Montgomery Grange. He enjoyed playing cards, Domino's and board games. Along with his wife Geraldine they enjoyed working in their flower and vegetable gardens.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis Godin and his wife, Sheila, of Essex, and Brent Godin of Montgomery; a step daughter and her husband, Betsy and David Holcomb of St. Albans; two step sons and their wives, George and Jayne Carpenter of Enosburg, and Jack and Judy Carpenter of Bakersfield; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Godin of Springfield, Mass., and Leo Godin of Athol, Mass; a sister, Bertha Hart of North Troy; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hart of Montgomery Center, and Charlene Johnston of Williston; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Hilda (Gonyea) Godin on March 10, 1976, they were married July 22, 1940; his second wife, Geraldine (Tibbits) Godin, they were married Aug. 20, 1977; four sisters, Theresa Smith, Gladys Fecteau, Cordelia Allain, and Grace LaFlam.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, June 30, 2005, at 11 at St. Isidores Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Isidores Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
