ObituaryJul 4, 2002  OBITUARY: HYDE PARK, VT –Gladys Nellie Patch, 83, passed away unexpectedly in Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton on Tuesday, July 2, 2002.

Gladys was born in Montreal, Quebec, on July 18, 1918., the daughter of Burt and Nellie (Tragus) Billingham.

In her younger years in Canada, she was employed as a live-in nanny.

She was married to Clayton Patch on March 23, 1946. They moved to Hyde Park shortly afterward, having been residents ever since. Clayton predeceased her in 1968. An infant son, Clifton, died in 1952.

Gladys was a very kind and caring mother, not only to her own children, but as a foster mother to many children she welcomed into her home and life. She received recognition as Foster Parent of the Year in 1984 for Vermont and nationally.

Gladys was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Hyde Park.

In her later years, she enjoyed singing with a group from “Out and About” in Morrisville, where she spent may productive, quality hours of her time.

She is survived by a brother and sister, Ronald Billingham and Doreen Ring, both of Canada; seven children: a daughter, Emma Labree and her husband, Rodney, of Hyde Park; a son, Terry of Morrisville; a daughter, Marilyn Horner and her husband Larry Sr., of Hyde Park; a daughter, Donna Mcleon of Tampa, Fla; a son Richard Sr. and his wife, Lucy; a son, Kenneth and his wife, Eleanor; a son, Eric Sr. and his wife, Peggy, all of Hyde Park; a stepdaughter, Marcia Lelond and her husband, Fern, of Tempe, Ariz; a very special foster son, Joseph Sheffield of North Wolcott; a special foster daughter, Suzanne Rathburn of Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Second Congregational Church of Hyde Park with interment following in Jedediah Hyde Cemetery.
