Mr. Taylor was born in Gates County to the late Edgar D. and Mrs. Essie Lassiter Taylor.

He was retired from the North Carolina Highway Department as a machine operator. He attended both Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tyner and Savage's United Methodist Church, Gates. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Orene Outland Taylor , and his daughter, Estelle T. Goodwin. Surviving is a son, L. B . Taylor Jr. of Suffolk; two sisters, Nellie T. Lassiter and Margaret T. Hofler, both of Sunbury; four brothers, Stanley H. Taylor of New City, N.Y., George E. Taylor of Palatka, Fla., Robert Taylor of Hertford and Lloyd Taylor of Portsmouth, Va; two grandchildren, Christy Lynn Taylor and Shelton Lee Goodwin II. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Henry Pillow and the Rev. Joe Buck.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
