He was born in Lowell and was an engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency in Boston until his retirement.

He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. (Turgiss) Shufelt, and father of Mark D. Shufelt and his wife, Joan, of Salem, NH and Debra L. Jones and her husband Michael of Billerica; grandfather of William Jones, Andrew Jones and Robert Jones, all of Billerica, and Alison Shufelt and Sarah Shufelt, both of Salem, NH; brother of Beverly A. Smith, Daniel R. Shufelt, Thomas A. Shufelt and Walter D. Shufelt, all of Sanford, ME, and the late Richard “Butch” Shufelt of Woodbridge, VA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home, 374 Main Street (Rt. 38), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m A private interment will be held at the convenience of his family.
