ObituaryOct 12, 2009  OBITUARY: Frederick H. Sylvester, 79, of Enfield, passed away peacefully after a long illness with his loving family at his side on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, when he went home to be with his daughter, Lynda, in Heaven. He was the beloved husband of Jeannine (Coulombe) Sylvester and son of the late Hermes and Gala (Bashaw) Sylvester.

He was born on March 3, 1930, in Montgomery Center, Vt., and had resided in Enfield for the past 47 years. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to retiring in 1992, Fred was employed with Hamilton/ Sundstrand for 40 years, after retirement he was a crossing guard for the town of Enfield. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and most of all time spent with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, formerly with Council 50, Enfield, and the Broad Brook Council and a member of St. Martha Church.

Besides his wife of 56 years, Jeannine, he is survived by his three sons and their wives: Allen and Rosanne Sylvester, Richard and Carol Ann Sylvester, and Dennis and Pamela Sylvester, all of Enfield; his nine beloved grandchildren; Jennifer Aiken (Russell), Kathleen Peterson (Eric), Richard K. Sylvester Jr. (Elizabeth), Matthew Sylvester (April), Tara Sylvester, Marilyn Deni (Edward), Brenda Tenerowicz, Michael Tenerowicz and Christopher Tenerowicz; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Sylvester, Evan Sylvester, Rielly Aiken, Braidyn Sylvester, Katlyn Deni, Lauren Deni, and his special great-grandson, AJ "Peanut" Sylvester. He also is survived by a brother, Robert Sylvester (Edie) of East Hartford; a special brother-in-law, Bruno Coulombe of Canada; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Canada. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynda J. Sylvester (June 20, 2008).

Fred's family would like to thank the staff of Blair Manor and the Visiting Nurses and Health Services Hospice Program for the exceptional and compassionate care given to Fred.

Relatives and friends may gather with the family during calling hours on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, with the procession forming at 9 a.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels to St. Martha Church for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, followed by interment with military honors in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield.

Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
