ObituaryMay 11, 2014  OBITUARY: Pembroke -- Bruce Albert Archambault Sr., 80, passed away in Florida, following a courageous and graceful battle with heart disease.He was surrounded by his devoted wife, Marie, and his loving children.

Bruce was born at his family home in Richford, Vt., on July 29, 1933, the youngest child of Eli and Lucile Hamel (Lamell) Archambault.

Bruce attended Richford High School and graduated in 1951. He then entered religious life at the Third Order of Saint Francis of Assisi from 1951 to 1956. He graduated from Catholic University in 1955 and in 1959 obtained his master's degree in guidance and personnel management from Springfield College. He began his professional career as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state Department of Education in Ohio from 1959-1960. He worked at Goodwill Industries in Ohio from 1960-1966 as the assistant director. After his move to New Hampshire, he became the director of personnel for the Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He was promoted to state director of vocational rehabilitation and served for 22 years before retiring in 1993.

Bruce was an avid fisherman, who loved to work in the garden, cook his famous spaghetti dinners and feed as many of the neighborhood children and friends as possible. He enjoyed summers at Lake Gorham in Dunbarton and winters in Port Richey, Fla. He was a devout Catholic and his faith in God was ever present in his interactions with others and his unwavering devotion to his family. He loved to tell elaborate stories, reminisce about growing up in Vermont and the hardships his family endured on their small farm on Hardwood Hill.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Marie (Aubin) Archambault, of Pembroke. Bruce and Marie had their first date on Christmas Eve 1957, and after a short five- month courtship, were married in Newington, Conn., on June 7, 1958 and remained happily wed even after almost 56 years.

Mr. Archambault also leaves his children and their spouses and partners: Bruce Jr. and Barbara Archambault of Waynesville, Mo., Steven and Jean Archambault of Northfield, Mark and Melanie Archambault of Aurora, Colo., David and Jan Archambault of Penacook, Donald Archambault of Hudson, Fla., Paulette and Michael Yeaton of Pembroke, Bernard and Kori Archambault of Warsaw, Mo., Michael Archambault and Eric Benander of Worcester, Mass., and Susan Demos of Concord; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Of his seven brothers and seven sisters, three are surviving, including Esther Madigan from Melrose, N.Y., Melbourn Archambault and his wife, Felicia, of Ellington, Conn., and Theresa Archambault, who has been serving in the Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for over 65 years as Sister Mary Monica. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Lawrence, Bernard, James, Richard, and Gerald as well as his sisters, Henrietta, Mary, Madeline, Rita and Cecile (Sister Archambault).

Friends and family are gathering to pay their respects on Tuesday, May 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown, followed by burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bruce's name to The Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 226 Grove St., Littleton 03561.
