ObituaryMar 26, 2010  OBITUARY: ALTUS, Okla. - Leatha Marie Washburn Mahan, 93, died Friday, March 19, 2010, in Oklahoma City.

Private graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Altus Cemetery in Altus. A memorial celebration will be at 1 p.m. in Grace United Methodist Church, 620 S. Park Lane in Altus, followed by a reception. Arrangements are by Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Leatha was born May 27, 1916, in Quinlan to Cortez and Eva Wylie Washburn. She married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Edwin Mahan, in 1937. They lived in various places before moving to Altus, their home for 45 years, where they raised six children and were very active in church and community organizations. In 1996, the couple moved to the Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Maurice; her parents; two brothers; five sisters; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include six children, Susanna Norman and husband Joe of Amarillo, Texas, James C. Mahan and wife Glenda of Altus, Terry Mahan and wife Sandra of Anthem, Ariz., Janice Ford and husband John of Azle, Texas, Ben Mahan and wife Georgia of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Shari Portman and husband Robert of Oklahoma City; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Grace United Methodist Church, 620 S. Park Lane, Altus, OK 73521.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
