ObituaryNov 6, 1999  OBITUARY: OLNEY, Robert B. M.D., 82, of San Jose. California, died Sunday, October 31 at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of Albert and Lydia Olney, he received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1941 and served as a Naval Flight Surgeon during World War II. He completed a residency in Pediactrics at the Children's Hospital of the East Bay in Oakland, California in 1948 and practiced pediatric medicine in Westwood Village and Brentwood until joining the State Department as a medical officer in 1966. He served in the American Embassies in Thailand, Laos, Zaire, Vietnam and Tunisia before returning to Washington as the Assistant Clinical Director of Medical Services.

Dr. Olney retired from the State Department in 1976. He then joined Bechtel Corporation and served as a regional Medical Director for that firm in various regions throughout the world. He retired to Clearwater, Florida in 1982. And moved to San Jose in 1990.

He leaves his loving wife of twenty-nine years, Hien Olney; two daughters, Nancy Albertson and Sue Aldrich Wagner; one son Stephen Olney, three grandchildren and uncounted patients to whom he brought comfort and cure in time of illness.
