Born in Bridgewater on Nov. 14, 1928, he was the son of John E. and Lillian A. (Butler) Longaway.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War.

Mr. Longaway was a carpenter and built his own home.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel (Eaton) Longaway, whom he married June 6, 1958, in Brandon; two daughters, Tammy Collins of Bath, N.H., and Terry Toppins of Monument, Colo; five grandchildren; five sisters, Evelyn Garrow of Mount Holly, Rachel Tenney of East Bethel, Kay Powers of Cornwall, Maggie Palmer of East Middlebury and Shirley Bougor of Wilton, N.Y; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Longaway.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in Hancock Village Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Holman of Hancock Community Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701; or Brandon Area Rescue Squad, Franklin Street, Brandon, VT 05733.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home in Middlebury.
