ObituaryAug 27, 2006  OBITUARY: GREENSBORO - Clara Sharpe "Joni" Rountree, 96, died August 25, 2006 at Friends Homes.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2006, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 400 W. Radiance Drive, where she was a member. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Rountree, born in Alamance County on December 10, 1909, was the daughter of Lacy Eugene Sharpe and Fannie Thompson Sharpe. She was a graduate of Elon College where she majored in biology.

Mrs. Rountree was a member of the Junior Women's Club and Starmount Forest Country Club. She was an accomplished artist whose primary medium was pastel portraits. A very creative person, she also was musical and wrote poetry. She was known for her athletic ability because she excelled in any sport she tried. She remained an active tennis player until late in her life. Her love of nature was a great source of joy for her.

First and foremost, Mama Joni was a devoted wife and mother. She gently shared wisdom and encouragement with many throughout the years and was adored as a good friend. She will be remembered for her kindness and unselfish nature, her strength and resilience, her grace and dignity, and her beauty and inherent style. Her pure spirit will live on in those whose lives she has touched.

Mrs. Rountree was predeceased by her husband J. Hinton Rountree and her grandson Whit Lineweaver.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Lineweaver and her husband Brokie of Greensboro, Rebecca Harris and her husband Pete of Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Moore and her husband Ted of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, John Lineweaver of Atlanta, Ga., David Lineweaver of New York, N.Y., Sali Hagan and her husband Jonathan of Nashville, Tenn., Thad Moore and his wife Kara of Raleigh, and Alexander Moore and his wife Meredith of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandchildren Lacy and Whit Hagan.

Memorials may be made to Congregational United Church of Christ, 400 W. Radiance Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403, Friends Homes, 925 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410, Elon University, Elon College, NC 27244, or the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ann and Brokie Lineweaver, 12 Sturbridge Lane, Greensboro.
