Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he had resided in this area more than 60 years. He was a retired employee of the New Haven Railroad. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Emily Alling of East Haven; a son, David R. Blackie of Hamden; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Gibson Blackie.
