Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 28, 1972, at Posey’s Funeral Home in North Augusta with the Rev. Lewis McNeil officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Garfield was a native of Vermont and lived the past 14 years in North Augusta. A veteran of World War II, he received the Congressional Medal of Honor for service during the Battle of the Buge.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Williams Garfield, North Augusta; a daughter, Mrs. Elsie M. Hirth, Alexandria, VA; a son, Donald W. Garfield, Providence, R.I; four stepsons, Alfred Knowles, Gerald Knowles, Arthur Knowles and Leon Knowles, Vermont; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Ramona Hardacker and Mrs. Zita Champney, Vermont, and Mrs. Gladys McNeil, North Augusta; two brothers, Charlie Garfield, Stewart, Conn., and Leslie Garfield, Brattleboro, VT; and two sisters, Mrs. Alma Hirt, Stewart, Fla., and Mrs. Evangeline Smart, New Hampshire.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Waller, Wade Bailey, Robert McNeil, Rusty Burgess, Arthur Mathis and C.B. Smith.
