ObituaryDec 28, 1990  OBITUARY: JAMES “BILL” ALLEN, 76, a resident of the Swanton, VT for many years, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 23, 1990, in Forsythe, GA. For the past several years Bill and his wife Hazel spent the summers with their daughter in Alburg and the winters between their home in Seville, FL and their daughter’s home in Gainsboro, TN. He was associated for several years with the Agway store in St. Albans and then with General Electric in Burlington, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Swanton and also a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Bill was born in Staten Island, NY June 16, 1914, the son of the late James Sr. and Ellen (Gilmartin) Allen. He attended schools in New ork and on Sept. 5, 1936 he married the former Hazel Mulheron, who survives him.

In addition to his wife of Swanton, he is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, James William and Jean Allen of Granite City, IL, and Joseph Ezra and Debby Allen of Swanton; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Ellen and Donald Jones of Mount Victoria, MD, Barbara and Robert Hackett of Gainsboro, TN, Susan and Paul Jacques of Alburg, and Donna Marshall-Patch and Phillip Patch of Swanton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Honey Allen of Roswell, NM, and Joseph Allen of Saddlebrook, NJ; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Brian Allen in 1967, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Goggin and Mrs. Helen Phillips.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Church of the Nativity with Interment following in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 22, Swanton, VT 05488, or to the Alburg Rescue Squad, in care of Terry Tatro, Secretary/Treasurer, Alburg, BT 05440.
