ObituarySep 17, 2005  OBITUARY: BRATTLEBORO -- Robert "Bob" A. May Sr., 84, a longtime resident of Brattleboro, died on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1920, in West Halifax, the son of the late Warren and Myrtle (Woodard) May.

Mr. May moved to the Brattleboro area when he was 5, and has lived here happily since.

He served his country in the Army during World War II.

He worked for 33 years for the Lawton Dry Cleaning Co. He then went to work for the next 10 years for the Case Brothers (Boise Cascade) Co. as a stockroom manager, and later for Weeks Dairy in the distribution department, retiring from there.

Following his retirement, he continued to work at various jobs in the Brattleboro area.

He was a life member of the Brattleboro VFW Post 1034 and the Brattleboro American Legion Post 5. He was also a past commander of the VFW.

He recently received his diploma from the Brattleboro Union High School as well as having received a certificate degree in the field of dry-cleaning.

Mr. May was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, camping, and going RVing. He was a craftsman who took great pleasure in making things for his family. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, the news and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. May is survived by his wife Beverly (Sanborn) May of Brattleboro; four sons, Dean Spaulding and his wife Rebecca of Vernon, Robert Spaulding and his wife Patty of West Dummerston, William Spaulding and his wife Diana of Bellows Falls, Robert May Jr. of Brattleboro; three daughters, Donna Morris of Lakewood, Wash., Theresa Perham of Hinsdale, N.H., and Cynthia Amidon of Providence, R.I; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Jenkins; and a grandson, Joseph Spaulding.

Funeral services for Mr. May will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery, also in Brattleboro. Calling hours will be on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
