ObituaryDec 14, 2004  OBITUARY: ORONO, ME – John E. Boocock Sr., 92, died peacefully Dec. 9, 2004, at his home in Orono, ME, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Lowell, Mass., the son of Sarah (Ellis) and George Boocock.

In the 1930s he served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service as a Radioman 2nd Class. During World War II he was a communications officer with the Merchant Marine. Mr. Boocock was employed by the U.S. Justice Dept. in northern Vermont as a Border Control agent and later as an Immigration Inspector. He retired in 1971 after 38 years of federal service. He had many hobbies, but his greatest interest was amateur radio. His license was W1QQ.

John is survived by two daughters, Lynda Taplin and her husband Ron, of Newburgh, and Gail Benjamin of St. Albans, Vt; two sons, John Boocock of Sheldon, Vt., and David Boocock of Richford, Vt; two grandsons, Jay Taplin of Brewer and David Taplin of Bangor; one great-grandson, Dylan Taplin, of Ellsworth.

Dad was a special man and he will be greatly missed. He was at peace, and we are all grateful for that.

With respect for Mr. Boocock’s wishes there will be no service.
