ObituaryMar 2, 2006  OBITUARY: RUTLAND - Wayne H. Pelkey, 72, of Rutland, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, 2006, as the result of an accidental drowning while fishing on the ice on Lake George in New York State.

He was born in Pittsford, Vt. on July 29, 1933, the son of Harold "Harry" J. and Marguerite (Congdon) Pelkey.

Mr. Pelkey was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War.

He was employed by Pike Industries Inc. for many years and by Whitcomb Paving Co. for the past 14 years.

Mr. Pelkey enjoyed fishing and Red Sox baseball.

He was lovingly known to his grandchildren as "Poppy" and "Bear".

Surviving are his lifetime companion and the love of his life, Rose (Dazzi) Denno; two sons, Michael Pelkey and his wife, Tammie of Castleton and John Pelkey of Janesville, Wisconsin; three daughters, Judy DeAngelis and her husband, Ken of Lake Hortonia, Vt; Ann Marie Galvan of Janesville, Wisconsin and Debbie Mowry and her husband, Jason of Rutland; two sisters, Shirley Baccei of Rutland and Phyllis Shortsleeve and her husband, Jack of Chittenden; three stepsons, Reginald Denno III, Michael Denno and his wife, Lynn and Robert Denno, all of Rutland; a stepdaughter, Linda Farrell and her husband, Gary of Pittsford, Vt; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; by a brother, Harold "Perk" Pelkey of Pittsford, and by a stepbrother, Robert Bushee of Pittsford.

Private funeral services will be held on Saturday at the convenience of the family in the Clifford Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Francis Privé, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, from 4 to 7 p.m.
