ObituaryJan 14, 2008  OBITUARY: LORRAINE LACAILLADE BOLTON — Lorraine Eleanor Champney Lacaillade died unexpectedly Jan. 12, 2008 in the comfort of her home. She was born Sept. 13, 1924 in Jonesville. She was the thirteenth of fifteen children born to John and Josephine Pecor. Lorraine married Cleveland Champney on July 31, 1941, starting 26 years of a very happy marriage and the birth of nine children. Lorraine's life was all about people and caring for people in need. While she was bringing up her own nine children, she opened her home and heart to many foster children who also thought of her as their "Ma". She later worked at the Vermont State Hospital as a psychiatric technician until she opened one of the first community care homes in the State of Vermont where she provided a home for up to eleven community patients. She operated this community home until her final retirement in 1988. Throughout her life, Lorraine enjoyed watching wrestling, playing board games with her grandchildren and running her snow blower. Lorraine is survived by her children, Bernard Champney and wife Ginny of Waterbury; Charlene Hayford and husband Ellis of Williston; Mildred Barup and husband Ray; Gary Champney and wife Linda of Holland; Geraldine Germaine and husband Arnie of Richmond; Doreen Dion and friend Bill of Anna Marie Island, Fla; Maureen McIntyre and husband Michael of Bolton; and Lorraine's surrogate daughter Mary Archer. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Rivers of Norwich, Conn. and Francis Miller of Essex Center; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband Cleveland Champney in 1967; two sons, Roger Champney in 1962 and Joe Champney in 1993. She was also predeceased by eight sisters, Sally, Sophronia, Janet, Lillian, Agnes, Verna, Theresa and Gladys; and four brothers, Jim, Kenneth, Virgil and Delbert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Richmond. Friends and family may call at the Gifford Funeral Home, Depot Street, Richmond on Tuesday, Jan. 15 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions should be sent to the Richmond Rescue Squad in Richmond. Arrangements are in the care of Gifford Funeral Home.4
