ObituaryMay 8, 2003  OBITUARY: MONTGOMERY - Richard S. "Kaiser" Elkins, age 91, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans with his family at his side. Richard was born April 7, 1912, in Montgomery, the son of the late Burt and Lillian (Kennett) Elkins.

Richard was a life long resident of Montgomery where he was a member of the Montgomery Community Baptist Church and was a former member of the Masons. He drove the horse drawn school barge when he was a teenager and was employed by W. Chaffee for many years as a mechanic, pulp truck driver and helped with sugaring. He also worked for Arthur St. Onge farming and as a mechanic. He was also Road Commissioner for the Town of Montgomery for several years.

He is survived by four sons, Richard Elkins and his wife, Linda, of Colchester, Lyndol Elkins and his wife, Lila, of Montgomery, Francis Elkins and his wife, Linda, of Montgomery, and Rocky Elkins and his friend Lori Gaudette of Enosburg Falls; three daughters, Elaine Sheltra and her friend Carmen Mayhew of Richford, Charlotte Parent and her husband, Raymond, of Enosburg Falls, and Brenda Ostrout and her husband, Joseph, of Montgomery; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Burton Donna of Enosburg Falls and Robert Donna of Highgate; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorcas (Donna) Elkins. They had been married for 64 years. He was also predeceased by a sister, Ruth Fitch, and a grandson, Keith Noyes.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, he will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 12, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Montgomery Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Patterson of the Northside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
