ObituaryJun 1, 1999  OBITUARY: VERO BEACH, Fla. George W. Lafley, 96, of this town, died Sunday at a local nursing home. He was an electrician for Ronald T. Oakes Co. of Holyoke, Mass., for 41 years and the town wiring inspector in South Hadley, Mass., during the 1950s. Born in Holyoke, he lived in South Hadley for 50 years before moving here 20 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in South Hadley and a 75-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was an officer for many years and the president of Holyoke Local 707 from 1964 to 1970. He played on the Granby, Mass., town baseball team from 1918 to 1940 and was in the Holyoke Canoe Club. He was a member of the Holyoke Country and Wyckoff country clubs for many years, a life member of the Elks and an exalted ruler of the Holyoke Elks Lodge. He leaves a son, George Jr. of South Hadley; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday morning at Ryder Funeral Home and the church, with burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, all in South Hadley. Calling hours are Wednesday afternoon and evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Life Care, 330 Whitney Ave., Holyoke, MA 01040, or the American Heart Association, 1111 Elm St., West Springfield, MA 01089.
