July 14, 2008, after a courageous 4 1/2 year battle against ovarian cancer. Her bravery and fighting spirit was an inspiration for everyone around her. She had a joyous and loving presence and a great sense of humor.

She was born in L'Ange Gardien, Quebec, Canada, on Sept. 15, 1919, to Joseph Mercure and Dorila (Vadnais) Mercure. On June 24, 1941, she married Alphonse Robert. Together, they owned several businesses in the St. Albans area, including the Cadillac Motel from 1956 to 1961 and City Feed and Lumber from 1968 to 1976. They enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and the summers at their camp on Maquam Shore. She also enjoyed playing cards and traveling, having traveled throughout Europe, China and the Caribbean. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church in St. Albans and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse Robert; her parents, Joseph and Dorila Mercure; her brothers, George Mercure, Stephanus Mercure, Herminus Mercure and Rosaire Mercure; and her sister, Yvonne Vadnais.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Francine Thomas and husband, Keith Thomas Jr., of Essex Junction, and Ginette Warner and husband, James Warner, of St. Albans; her grandchildren, Michelle Thomas of Burlington, Peter Thomas of Essex Junction, Alan Warner and wife, Pilar Warner, of New Albany, Ohio, Christine Warner of Jersey City, N.J., and Robert Warner of Charleston, S.C; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Warner and Sophia Warner of New Albany, Ohio; her sisters, Edma Berard of Longueuil, Quebec, and Marie-Perle Brien of Granby, Quebec; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Gamal Eltabbakh, MD and his staff and Stephen Baad, MD. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Pillsbury Manor Gazebo Apartments for their extraordinary love, care and kindness expressed to her during the time she spent there.

Lucille's family will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday, July 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Robert family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
