ObituaryJun 13, 1925  OBITUARY: JAMES O. PREBLE; James O. Preble passed away at his home on upper Madison street, Friday about seven o'clock, after a lingering illness of serveral months, during which time he had been tenderly cared for by his daughter, Miss Annie, who has been th home-maker since the death of Mrs. Preble in November, 1920. Also by the three sons who reside in this place. Mr. Preble was born in Greenbush, March 12, 1847 and was the last surviving of five children of Benjamin O. and Anna (Inman) Preble. On November 24, 1863, he enlisted in Co. G, 2nd Maine cavalry and was discharged at Barraneas, Florida, December 6, 1865. August 19, 1869, he was united in marriage to Hannah B. Sibley of Burlington. Here their early life was passed on a farm. To this union were born 10 children. Mr. Preble was loving father, kind friend and good citizen. A man of retiring disposition. He was a member of N. A. Weston Post, G. A. R. He is survived by seven children, John H., and Orrin S. of Springfield, Mass. J. Lester, Burlington, William C., Annie A., Norris A., and Charles A., all of this place, besides twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the late home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. Lewis Wall. The interment was in the family lot at Forest Hill cemetery.
