ObituaryJan 28, 2010  OBITUARY: ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Phyllis Ovitt (Dudley) Duso, 90, passed away on Jan. 25, 2010, at Altamonte Springs, Fla. She was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Bakersfield, to the late Homer D. Ovitt and Maude L. Barnes. She was the wife of the late John P. (Perk) Dudley of East Montpelier, who died suddenly in 1961. In 1969, she married Carmi J. Duso of Enosburg Falls. They lived in East Montpelier until his death in 2005. She is survived by her son, James C. Dudley, his wife, Faith, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her daughter, Charlene McIntire, her husband, Jonathan, of Longwood, Fla., six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Phyllis graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield and Johnson Normal School (State College), Johnson. She was employed as an elementary teacher in East Montpelier. She was instrumental in reopening the Old Brick Church in East Montpelier which had been unused for several years when she came to town. She served as organist and choir director and faithful member during the 60 years she lived in town. In the 1950's, she directed popular home-town minstrel shows. She was honored as Vermont Mother of the Year in 1967. With Carmi she traveled to all 50 states and throughout Europe. Donations may be made to the Old Brick Church in East Montpelier, Vermont.
