ObituaryMay 16, 2010  OBITUARY: Everett L. Brothers, 95, of 726 Firetower Road, Elizabeth City, NC died Friday, May 14, 2010 at his residence. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of the late Erskine L. and Helon Williams Brothers and was the husband of the late Kathleen Bray Brothers and of the late Dorothy Hofler Brothers.
Mr. Brothers was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy. He later retired as a machinist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Mr. Brothers was a lifelong member of Newland United Methodist Church where he was the men’s Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and sang in the choir. He belonged to the Newland-Providence Ruritan Club for over 50 years. He was a member of the New Lebanon Lodge #314 AF & AM for 75 years; the New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies KCCH; the Elizabeth City York Rite Bodies KYCH; and the Sudan Shriners.
Mr. Brothers is survived by his children, Leon Brothers and wife Bonnie of Elizabeth City, NC, Marilyn Brothers of Cary, NC, Joyce Courtney of Apex, NC, and Glenn Brothers and wife Amy of Fuquay-Varina, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; step-children, Julia Lynch and husband John of Chapel Hill, NC, Martha Lilly and husband Doug of Gatesville, NC, Helen Jett and husband Jim of Asheville, NC, and Lynn Blackmon and husband Mike of Greensboro, NC; seven step-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Jackson and husband Carol, and Una Mae Jackson, all of Elizabeth City, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Newland United Methodist Church with Rev. Toni Wood officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Newland United Methodist Church, C/O J.C. Harris, 403 Pineview Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
