ObituaryJun 16, 2020  OBITUARY: Winfield Joseph Giguere “Giggs” passed away and joined his beloved Jennie on June 16, 2020. He is survived by his six daughters, Sheila Marjorie Giguere, Jennifer Giguere Humann, (Kevin), Jackie Lyn Hetrick, (Mark deceased 2014), Wendy Lou Giguere, Heidi Hope Hughes, (Michael), Amy Sue Sherman, (Timmy), and his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Giggs was born in Claremont, New Hampshire on June 20, 1930, and after funding his education through serving in the Navy, he graduated from The University of New Hampshire, class of 1954, already the proud father of three children; he and Jennie resided in North Plainfield, New Jersey, then they established their first family homestead in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. In 1966 he and Jennie moved to Lincroft, New Jersey where they welcomed their sixth daughter into the world. In the early 2000’s, Jennie and Giggs began to enjoy their winters in lovely Bradenton, Florida.

Giggs was a highly respected and beloved electrical engineer and director for Bell Telephone Laboratories/AT&T until he retired in 1994 after completing 40 years of service. He earned several patents and was named an honored Fellow for his contributions. His work on Telstar has enabled us all to enjoy our beloved cell phones.

After 56 years of marriage, Jennie passed on, and Giggs was left to fend for himself in 2006. Giggs’ charm captured the eye of another woman, and he began to split his time between Oceanport, New Jersey, and Bradenton, Florida where he shared loving homes with Jean Potter, and in 2018 he made Bradenton his permanent residence.

Giggs was the life of the party and larger than life itself. Charisma, charm, love, affability, and generosity are inadequate words to describe him. He was the most generous and loving father who convinced every one of his children that she was his favorite. His work colleagues loved him so much that for years after his retirement they continued to take him to lunch because they genuinely missed his company.

Giggs never let anyone go hungry, and he always made everyone feel welcome. His famous “lobster box” clam bakes are a legacy his family will surely continue. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends, which were anyone he met. When Giggs passed, it wasn’t until all of his girls had gathered in Bradenton to celebrate his life.

In lieu of gifts and in honor of Giggs’ generosity, please consider donations to Lincroft Presbyterian Church, Tidewell Hospice or when enjoying a beverage at your favorite watering hole – toast Giggs and remember to tip generously.
