He was a former longtime resident of Agawam. Mr. Tatro, 90, was born January 26, 1924 to the late Roy B. and Margaret (Bangs) Tatro. He graduated from Agawam High School in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, and remained in the Naval Reserves until retiring as Lieutenant Commander in 1972. Mr. Tatro graduated from Harvard College in 1948. He later continued his educational studies and received a Masters Degree from Springfield College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Springfield College. Mr. Tatro was a public school educator for thirty-six years. He began his teaching career at Agawam Junior High School. He transferred to the Springfield system in 1952 and for the next eighteen years he held multiple Assistant Principal and Principal Positions at the junior and senior high school level. In 1970, he returned to Agawam to become Principal of Agawam High School. In 1972, due to his vast experience at the junior high level, he was appointed to organize and develop a course of study for the new Agawam Junior High School. He retired in 1984 as Assistant Superintendent of the Agawam Public Schools. Mr. Tatro was a founding member of St. John the Evangelist Church and a Life Member of the John F. Kennedy Council 5585 Knights of Columbus. Mr. Tatro was also a Life Member of the Agawam Lions Club of which he was a member for more than sixty years. In Lions International, he served as District Governor of District 33Y.

Mr. Tatro is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of sixty-four years, the former Lucille E. (Letendre) Tatro, two daughters, Paula E. Tangredi and her husband David of Milford, MA, Cynthia L. Chapman and her husband James of Feeding Hills, and three sons, Glenn A. Tatro and his wife Karen, Thomas R. Tatro and his wife Elizabeth, and Paul A. Tatro Jr., and his wife Ivette, all of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves eight granddaughters, one grandson, three step-grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Marguerite Sullivan, and his brothers, Bernard, Louis and Gilbert Tatro.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9am from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills at 10. The burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm.
