Mr. Hires was born in Norfolk and was retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility with 30 years of service. He was a member of Talbot Park Baptist Church in Norfolk; Norview Lodge (NU)113, AF & AM; Scottish Rite Bodies; and Khedive Temple, 32nd degree. He was a veteran of the Army and the Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Hires; two daughters, Christine H. Gonzalez of Norfolk and Dolna L. Brieske of Germantown, Md; one son, Michael D. Hires of Norfolk; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Keith Martin. The family will be at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening.
Contributions may be made to the Talbot Park Baptist Church Benevolent Fund.
