ObituaryMar 26, 2000  OBITUARY: Joseph Mack Byrum Sr., 88, died March 23, 2000. A retired farmer, he was a native of Nansemond County. Mr. Byrum was the widower of Edith Parker Byrum and the son of the late William Byrum and Annie Wilkins Byrum**. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and Byrum Hunt Club.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara B. and Larry E. Culbertson Sr., and Joyce B. and John E. Simpson, all of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. Byrum Jr. and Gloria R. Byrum, and Wayne P. and Brenda W. Byrum, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Larry Culbertson Jr., Sonya Culbertson, Keith Simpson, Teresa Vick, Angela Edwards and Wendy Langston; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thadus B. Pate and Goldie B. White, both of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Reueben Askew and the Rev. Tommy Reynolds. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home and other times at the home of the son, Joseph M. Byrum Jr., 1405 Copeland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Spring Christian Church Building Fund, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk.
**I am not sure where William and Annie Wilkins Byrum info comes from, he is the son of Isaac B. Annie M. Boyce Byrum. His sons, Joseph and Wayne are mentioned in his sister's, Goldie Byrum White, Obituary. As well as Thadus Pate is mentioned in several of his siblings.
