ObituarySep 22, 1998  OBITUARY: WINDSOR – Stella Thornton Martin, 96, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center’s Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor, VT.

She was born April 1, 1902, in Cornish, NH, daughter of Stephen and Aurilla (Hurd) Thornton.

She received her education in Cornish and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH, in 1921. She later graduated from Hesser Business College in Boston, Mass., as a certified public accountant.

She married Mackensie Chase who passed away. She later married Herman Howard Hastings who also predeceased her. She then married Burt Allen Martin, who died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Howard Brooks of Beltsville, MD; a daughter, Bernice Anne Wurselin of Sandgate; a sister, Elsie of Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Hastings; a daughter, Priscilla Spanos; and a brother, Corbin Thornton.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998 at 3 p.m. in the Garden Room of the Skilled Nursing Facility at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor with the Rev. Thomas Hayes, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Windsor, officiating.
