ObituaryAug 27, 2014  OBITUARY: Oscar Brighty Betts, 95, of 33 Timmerman Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at W.R. Winslow Memorial Home. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of the late John Wilson Betts and Lovey Virginia Jones Betts and was the husband of the late Grace Sample Betts and the late Ruth Wood Markham Betts. Mr. Betts was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a retired manager from Winslow Oil Company.
He is survived by four daughters, Betty Betts Norman and husband Gary, Patricia Betts Futrell and husband Billy, Joyce Betts Arledge and husband Billy and Nancy Grzesik and husband Frank; four step-children, Jerry Markham and wife Linda, Benjamin Markham and wife Becky, Susan Goodwin and husband Kent and Marty Markham and wife Joyce; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and three special nephews, Weymouth Eugene Betts of Augusta, GA, Lloyd Wilson Betts and Daniel Ellis (Oday) Betts both of Elizabeth City, NC. Along with his parents and his wives, Mr. Betts was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Faye Betts; and eight siblings.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jeff Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Betts family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
