ObituaryMay 16, 2006  OBITUARY: NEWFANE -- Janice Ellen Crowninshield Litchfield, 57, of Route 30 in Newfane, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2006, at Grace Cottage Hospital after being stricken at home.
Mrs. Litchfield was born in Brattleboro on April 6, 1949, the daughter of Bernard and Eliza Ann (Allbee) Crowninshield.
She was raised and educated in Jamaica and was a graduate of Leland & Gray Seminary in Townshend, Class of 1967. Mrs. Litchfield spent most of her married life in Newfane.
She was a well-known and respected town clerk for Newfane, a position she held for the past seven years. Previously she was employed as a postal clerk for Newfane and Jamaica, working out of the Newfane post office.
Mrs. Litchfield was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was a stay-at-home mom when her children were growing up and she was always there for her family on whom her entire life centered around.
She was a member of the NewBrook Fire Department & Rescue Auxiliary, held membership in the Windham County Historical Society located in Newfane, and was a longtime member of the Newfane Congregational Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, West River Post #16, and the Newfane Garden Club.
Mrs. Litchfield had a kind and generous spirit and gave of her time, love and energy to those in need. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Of her pastimes and interests, she enjoyed gardening, crewel embroidery, reading, shopping at Yankee Candle in South Deerfield, Mass., travel, and weekend trips to Foxwoods in Connecticut.
On Dec. 28, 1968, at First Congregational Church in Jamaica, she was married to Robert H. Litchfield.
Besides her husband of 37 years, she leaves her four children, Jennifer Ellen Joyce and her husband Bill of Townshend and their two daughters, Kayla Ellen and Marguerite of Townshend; Robert H. Litchfield II and his wife Lisa and their children, Robert III, Alexa and Sabin of Jamaica; Nicholas Litchfield and his significant other, Shaunna Little, also of Townshend, and Eliza-Ann Gosselin and her husband Marc of Barton; her mother of Jamaica; a brother, Thomas B. Crowninshield of Jamaica; her best friends, Joe and Karen Labbadia of Portland, Conn; several sisters- and brothers-in-law who were like her own family; and countless nieces and nephews who loved her.
She was predeceased by her father, who she fondly called "Daddy."
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Newfane Congregational Church with Pastor David Onyon, officiating.
A reception will follow the services to be held at the NewBrook Fire Station on Route 30, hosted by the membership and auxiliary.
Friends are invited to call at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME, 40 Terrace St., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
