ObituaryDec 23, 2013  OBITUARY: Westford - War II veteran George Seddon of Westford has died, according to Veteran Service Officer Terry Stader who said he received word this morning.
Seddon, 90, was a combat medic in the European theater in the elite Tenth Mountain Division, 604th Field Artillery Batallion.
In later years, he and his late wife Phyllis Seddon ran the 50-50 raffle for Westford Academy’s football and softball teams, raising thousands of dollars to support the school’s athletics.
Phyllis Seddon, who died on Feb. 5 2013, was also a World War II veteran. She served as a Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services, a branch of the U.S. Navy, from August 1944 to March 1946.
The Seddons lived a lifetime that spanned the rise and fall of the Nazi regime, a major world war, the assassination of a U.S. president, a real estate bubble, and an economic recession.
Childless, the couple embraced Westford Academy students as their own, said George in an interview to the Eagle when his wife passed away last winter. Their community involvement lasted more than a dozen years.
George’s and Phyllis’ oral histories about their World War II experiences were preserved in a recording that is available at the Westford Historical Society and at the Library of Congress’ World War II history project. The recordings have also aired on Westford Community Access Television.
