ObituaryJun 15, 2006  OBITUARY: WINDSOR, Vt. – Walter Allen Garrow, 56, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at his home in Windsor.

He was born July 5, 1949, in Richford, Vt., son of Gordon Howard Garrow and Lula Irene (Wright) Simonds, the third of 12 children and the first boy.

Walter lived his early years with his family on West Hill Road in Montgomery. After finishing school, Walter traveled around the east coast of the states, settling down in Florida when drafted to serve in the Army in late 1968. Walter completed Basic Training at Ft. Dix, N.J. and was sent to Vietnam to serve in the field artillery with the 1st Calvary Division. He served 10 months of combat duty, receiving one purple heart, and a bronze star, Army Accommodation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Medal. He left for good on Nov. 11, 1970, with the rank of sergeant.

He returned to live in Florida for the next five years to work on farms in the Tallahassee area. After a brief try at marriage, Walter divorced and returned to Vermont in 1975 to his roots. He lived and worked various farms in the Franklin area for the next three years, moving to the Hartland, Vt. area in 1978. He worked on dairy farms in the Bethel and Windsor area and for two lumber companies in the Harland area. He served as Boy Scout Master for Hartland Troop 235, and worked as a tree farmer in Sunapee, N.H. He met his true love of his life, Cindy Brigham in Fairlee, Vt. in 1979, and they were married the following year. Walter was always the trailblazer for his family to follow. A wonderful brother, a loving husband and super father and without a doubt, the proudest grandfather ever. Walter will be missed but never forgotten.

Survivors include his wife of Windsor; three daughters, Natasha, Katrina and Moreen; one son, Gary; and eight sisters, Laura Briton, Ila Wilson, Lila Elkins, Donna Armstrong, Pauline Domina, Betty Kidder, Ann Roy and Brenda Seymour; and three brothers, Ralph Garrow, Dale Garrow and Scott Garrow; and 11 grandchildren that he loved dearly.
