ObituaryAug 16, 2000  OBITUARY: Robert D. Turnbull, 77, of 76 Green River Road, a former Greenfield restaurateur, died Monday at Boston Medical Center.

He established and owned the popular former Turnbull's Restaurant and operated it from 1952 to 1985.

Born in this town, he was a 1940 graduate of Greenfield High School, a 1942 graduate of Deerfield Academy, and a 1949 graduate of Colgate University with a bachelor of arts degree.

An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he flew with the 15th Air Force based in Southern Italy. He attained the rank of captain.

He was a member of Second Congregational Church and the Elks Lodge and a past member of the Lions Club.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Edith Cummings; three daughters, Carol Lindsay of Wheaton, Ill., Susan Turnbull of West Springfield and Janet Turnbull of Greenfield; a brother, James H. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; a sister, Priscilla J. Lerman of Vero Beach, Fla; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday morning at McCarthy Funeral Home, with a military burial in South Cemetery, Leyden. A calling hour will precede the service.
