She formerly lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico and after retiring, moved to Laguna Hills, California, and finally Sun Lakes, Arizona. She was born in Burlington, Iowa on January 24, 1926, the daughter of Jack Orr and Dorothy Clarkson. She graduated from Dixon High School in Dixon, Illinois and attended college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She worked for many years at New Mexico State University as an executive secretary and ended her working career with New Mexico Governor Carruthers as his scheduling secretary.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Eugene E. Staffeldt of Las Cruces, New Mexico and her second husband Jack Turner of Riverside, California. She is survived by her husband Evan W. Evans of Sun Lakes, Arizona, her stepmother, Mary Orr and her half-sister Linda Carrillo, both of Bettendorf, Iowa, her two sons Mark Staffeldt of Las Vegas, Nevada and Paul Staffeldt of El Paso, Texas, and seven grandchildren, Desiree, Mark, and Stephan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jonathan of Los Angeles, California, Jeffrey of Roscoe, Illinois, and Michael and Christopher of El Paso, Texas.

There will be a graveside memorial service and burial at the Las Cruces Masonic Cemetery, 760 South Compress Road (505) 526-9474 in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Please make contri-butions to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85014 in her honor.
